Four Seasons Resort Nevis, West Indies: A Green and Serene Paradise - Travel Tips, Travel Magazine

For more than twenty years, Four Seasons Resort, as the recently reopened Resort (following a USD 110 million renovation) encourages guests to explore the pristine and untouched landscapes of Nevis through guided nature tours, rain forest hikes, sustainable dining programs, a partnership with the international Sea Turtle Conservancy organization, and by participating in island initiatives such as the International Coastal Clean-up Day. Now through early September guests can spend a little more time discovering Nevis' captivating environment with the Stay Longer - Third Night Free promotion.

Close to the hearts of many is the Resort's contribution in sea turtle conservation and education. Pinney's Beach, on which the Resort lies, is a nesting habitat for three endangered species of sea turtles, including the critically endangered hawksbill. In partnership with Nevis Turtle Group and the Sea Turtle Conservancy, Four Seasons Resort Nevis promotes education and preservation of the sea turtles. Resort guests can support the cause by sponsoring turtle adoptions and can also join the volunteer Nevis Turtle Group to help patrol the beaches and help protect and mark turtle nests during the night-time turtle vigils. Making conservation a fun and educational experience for the whole family, the Resort's complimentary Kids for All Seasons program offers a weekly Sea Turtle Camp day for kids. Activities include "turtle tales," turtle watch beach walks, arts and crafts, postcard drawing contests, interactive games, puzzles and videos. During the turtle nesting season on Nevis, which runs from June through October, children ages three to nine participating in the Kids for All Seasons turtle education program will receive a sea turtle adoption certificate and Sea Turtle Conservancy membership as a memento.

One of the most popular activities for adventure-seekers on Nevis is the varying nature hikes ranging offered for beginners and advanced trekkers alike. Four Seasons Concierge is available to arrange a number of excursions including a guided Sunset Monkey Tour via golf cart starring the island's fun-loving vervet monkeys, often seen munching on mangos around the Resort's Robert Trent Jones II golf course. A two-hour hike to Saddle Hill at 1250 feet (381 metres) offers spectacular views of St. Kitts, Montserrat's active volcano, and the island of Redonda (inhabited only by seabirds and feral goats). Another popular excursion features Nevis' own Resident Bush Medicine Man as he guides guests through the rainforest, exploring the island's herbs and natural healing remedies passed down through the generations. In addition, recently introduced Resort Garden Tours led by staff botanists educate guests on the native plants of Nevis, including the national poinciana tree with its seasonal red and orange colour bursts on the golf course and the variety of coconut trees on the island. Sea-lovers can take a kayak tour along the coastline or forage for one's own Caribbean spiny lobster to be prepared by the Resort's gourmet chefs in the popular Dive & Dine program. There are also a number of reefs, wrecks, canyons and caverns for divers to explore.
